Time to Rest

Today I did something I have never done before… I fell asleep during a pedicure and haircut! Typically, I am concerned about the shape of my toenails, if the polish is straight, and the length of my hair. However, today the salon was quiet, there was soothing music, and I totally trusted the stylist to do her thing. I shouldn’t say I fell asleep, it was more like I dozed off and on for the two hours. At one point, I began praying about a situation in my life and realized that I really wanted to God to be in control of it. For the first time I was actually trusting him with the situation.

As I prayed, one verse came to mind, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your soul. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30).” For those two hours at the salon, my phone was in my purse, the computer was at the office, and I simply rested. My heart, mind, and soul were able to rest in Jesus.

As I left, all I wanted to do was curl up with a cup of coffee and my Bible to spend time with my Daddy. I wanted to learn more of his heart, to take on his yoke and give him mine. Curled up with the Lord, I am able to rest, to lay down my worry and strain. Have you taken time to rest with the Lord today? If not, go brew a cup of coffee or grab your favorite beverage and the Word. Spend some time with your Daddy, learning from him and resting in his love for you.
