This summer I took a road trip across the country. At times. I was following someone who had made the dive before at other times I was following the directions of a person in the car with me who was looking at a GPS. The trip was interesting for me as a driver. When I was following the lead car, I had no idea what turn was next or how long we would be on a certain road. However, when I was hearing the turn-by-turn navigation, from within the car, I knew what to expect.
This whole driving thing reminded me of following the Lord. When I am following another person, I don’t know where I am or if they know what is coming next. But God sees the big picture, he has the GPS in a sense, and he gives me directions when the time is right. Too often, we can all be caught up in following another person, when we need to be following Jesus.
The way we know the Lord more and draw closer to him is through his Word (the Bible). Psalms 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path (HCSB).” The more time we spend in God’s Word the greater the direction for our path… it’s so simple yet it seems so hard at times. The challenge the Lord gave my heart, during the 20-hour drive home, was to draw closer to him, to know his Word better, to allow him to direct my path and no one else. Who would take that challenge as well?
